November 29th '09 Cobb's Landing

Huge thanks to Mick Cobb of Nott's PAC (hiss) for lending us his water again, we couldn't do it without you.

Our now annual Charity match had a new slant this year, not a competition but we were pitted against the newly formed Nott's PAC and there team of Geriatric pikers. With an average age of around 67 even taking into account young Harvey Osborne it was no surprise that they were fishing under the banner of The Linc's Air Ambulance.

The day started off rather overcast with several differing forecasts predicted, apart from one heavy downpour the day didn't turn out badly, we could have actually wished for more of a ripple come the afternoon.

several fish came early to a mix of Notts and 48 anglers followed by a long lull and a bit of action towards last knockings. Two anglers stood out for all the right reasons on "Team 48, Mick Hunt and Jez Willis, Mick took 3 fish, 8.14, 15.11 and a pearler of a 17.11. Jez left things late and had the best looking fish of the day at 18.02 only beaten by an ounce for biggest for the whole day. Steve Hood took a 10.10 and two-town Dave McCrudden slipped in a steady 6. All in all a total of 77lb on the nose.

Results from the Notts lads will be posted once they tell me and adjusted for the 56lb of prebait they had put in.

We will have to do this again but next time I'll fish and let Alan Dudhill do the bank walking.

Pics in no order the 48 and Nott's lads mixed in as it should be.

November 8th '09 Secret Lake.

Thanks to Dave Burrell and the secret lakes owner we managed to get 10+1 of the Mighty 48 onto a secret lake, we'll call it annexe A of our '09 St Barnabas campaign.

A very pretty and relaxing place to fish and enjoyed by all even by the two of the 11 who didn't manage to catch.

We have more photo's yet to come in but thought I'd get pics up as soon as I got them.

The runaway leader at the mo is Chris Dewhurst with 4 cracking doubles to 15lb.

All weights later.

Our First Fish-in

**** Total raised was a quite staggering £1000, well done lads. The cheque has now been paid in to the St.Barnabas, roll on the next event.****

Sunday the 21st of November 2008 saw 25 of the Mighty 48's finest set out to Girton to fish Mick Cobb's syndicate water that he had very generously donated to us for the day.

The weather had turned nasty overnight and although it was not actually blizzard condition we arrived in falling snow, high winds and very low temperatures, not ideal by any standard. Eager to get everyone to a swim as soon as possible I sent everyone off 30 minutes early and in the dark so alas no team photo, but at least the lads were going to be moving and hopefully warm up a little.

My 1st 2 hours saw me running around the lake checking all had found a swim and everyone was happy, it had stopped snowing and the sun was beginning to show it's face so smiles all round, I stopped smiling though when the"battle Kangoo" became bogged down in a swampy part of the track. 2 anglers were close by so I was saved ........hoorah....Bryan Ashford turned out to have the only Skoda 4X4 that had no apparant means of attaching a tow rope (which actually meant that it was clean and he wanted keep it that way) so Andy Brown was conned into helping me and instead got stuck too!!! Mick Cobb in a proper 4X4 saved the day and dragged us both out.I then shot off to refuel and on my return got stuck again! Thought it might be an excuse to start to throw some lures around and so the "Battle Kangoo" was abandoned.

With the sun now shining there were a plethora of dropped runs/runs that when hit had nothing there, lures were followed but the pike were just not interested in hitting them.Sie Blaydes and GG it would seem were entirely responsible for this as once their baits the size of dustbin lids went in the water level in the lake rose by an alrming degree, this must have been noticed by the pike who then became suspicious. Their larger than average baits did attract attention though but all runs that came to them were missed. After some thought it was decided that the runs were down to pairs of pike working together to run with them, one at each end and thus avoiding those pesky hooks.

Fish had started to come though, mostly small but a few were coming all to deads (normal sized), still nothing to the lure fraternity (me and Evaldas).

By 15:00 all 7 fish that were caught had shown up, Mick Hunt, Mick Cobb, Leigh Vickers, Chis Roberts and Aaron Hill had all had fish and everyone else was pining their hopes on a flurry at the end but unfortunately it was not to come, with darkness falling the biggest fish to be seen on the day turned away from GG's wobbled dead and darkness had descended.Once again no Team 48 photo.

Despite the cold and most anglers being fishless I am sure that everyone had a good time and were very pleased to be on a new and very nice water. We were there to raise money for the St Barnabas Hospice and everyone who fished had achieved that goal and that was the whole point to the excercise.

We'll work out the total raised very soon and post it up on here, The St Barnabas has done very well though.

Winner of the Biggest Fish went to Chris Roberts with a 12.08
Winner of the Highest total Weight went to Chris Roberts with 18.8 (three fish)
Winner of the £50 tackle-shop voucher went to Mick Hunt for his 11.15 fish

A huge "thank you" to everyone who fished the event, Mick Cobb for allowing us onto his very nice water and to Chris Chadwick for his generosity for donating the fantastic prize of the Tackle-Shop voucher.

Presentations to the winners on Mon 1st Dec.

We will have to do it again.
